The library is one of the most important centres of the University, which facilitates the reading, teaching, consultation, study, research and extension programs etc. Both the faculty and students extensively use the facility. The UBKV central library has therefore given key prominence to the development of the library facility at the head quarter (Pundibari) as well as the two outreached Regional Research Stations. Books, periodicals, theses, reports & CD ROM relevant to the mandate areas of the University have been stocked in the Central Library.
Since the beginning, efforts have been made to meet the requirements of teaching research and extension activities of the University and its collection has reached 22,564 volumes of books, 2000 bound volumes of journals, 200 reports, pamphlets, theses; the details of which is furnished below.

COMPUTER AND INTERNETCENTER :
Keeping in pace with the development in the area of information technology and other computer related services, the University has established a central computer Laboratory with accessory facilities such as internet browsing and e-mail.

Information Retrieval System :
The University Central Library has adopted open access System with card Catalogues (Only author) and follow Anglo American cataloging Rules (2nd) and Dewey Decimal classification scheme catalogue of books, Journals and theses covering the period from its inception to up to date. Likewise it is planned to extend computerization to other activities in the library very shortly.
Library Hours ::
University library is kept open from 10.30 am - 5.30 pm on all working days. Library house are fixed but the timing can be subjected to change from time to time according to the needs of the users or under the order of the higher authorities.
Membership :
Membership of the UBKV will be opened to:
- Students of the Faculties
- Members of the University teaching staff / Scientist
- he University Administrative officers
Book may be issued to any academic special or public library of standing when a request is made under inter- library loan arranged on mutual advantage.
Regional Research Station Libraries (RRS) :
Besides the central library 2 (two) outreached RRS have been maintaining a collection of books and periodicals. These RRS are
1. RRS, Kalimpong, Darjeeling
2. RRS, Majhian, Dakshin Dinajpur
Development In Technology :
Digital / Computer cataloging of all Central Library holdings have been completed with the aid of the UNESCO, CDS / ISIS software. But at the present the users/ readers cannot be given the benefit of this facility due to certain problems. The generation of bar coding is also started.
The University central library is cataloguing the collections of fifteen academic department and the collections of Faculty of technology. Catalogues of all department holdings have already been published.
Publications :
The Central Library regularly brings out printed list of books and journals for the information of all concerned / departments.
Library Administration :
A high quality in the collection is maintained with the sustained effort of the Library Advisory Committee.L |
